The Girls’ Polytechnic, Bamunimaidan, Guwahati, which was established in the year 1964, is a Diploma level technical institute run by the Govt. of Assam under the Directorate of Technical Education (D.T.E.), Assam and is affiliated to the State Council for Technical Education, Assam. All the courses are recognized by All India Council for Technical Education (A.I.C.T.E), Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Government of India.  In the Year 2004, Girls’ Polytechnic was renamed as Padmashree Chandra Prabha Saikiani Girls’ Polytechnic by the Govt. Assam. This is the oldest technical institution in the North East Region of India for women offering three years Diploma course in three different disciplines.

PCPS Girls’ Polytechnic Library: The PCPS Girls' Polytechnic Library was established in 1964, alongside its parent institution, PCPS Girls' Polytechnic. It began with a small collection of books and was initially located at Chandmari with Assam Engineering Institute (AEI). On August 15, 1975, the library was relocated to its present location at Bamunimaidan. Originally situated on the first floor, it was later shifted to the ground floor of the main building in 2005 for better accessibility. Today, the library spans a carpet area of 138.04 square meters and provides seating accommodation for up to 63 readers, supporting the academic needs of its students and staff. The library provides open access to its collection to all readers.
